The Great Escape kick starts the festival season, introducing 15,000 music lovers to the key artists and sounds of the year. With over 300 bands playing in 30 venues over 3 days, The Great Escape is the key date in the music calendar. In addition to pre-publicized performances, impromptu street gigs spring up all over town. The Alternative Escape, numerous club nights, label parties, industry showcases, unique collaborations and outdoor gigs all add to the festivities.

Halifax Pop Explosion (HPX) is now accepting early bird submissions for our 20th Anniversary festival which takes place October 16–20, 2012. Highlighted by unforgettable performances from acts such as Thee Oh Sees, Stars, Dan Mangan, The Thermals, and Chad VanGaalen, the 2011 Halifax Pop Explosion was the festival’s most successful and acclaimed year to date. Showcasing over 180 bands at 20 venues in front of more than 20,000+ fans and industry delegates, it was the perfect lead up to HPX‘s 20th anniversary in 2012. CANTOS MUSIC FOUNDATION CALL FOR PERFORMERS- ALL THAT JAZZ

Performances are presented by Cantos Music Foundation, The National Music Centre and the Hyatt Regency of Calgary and take place twice monthly: an evening performance on the second Thursday of the month in the Sandstones Lounge and a performance during brunch on the last Sunday of the month at Thomsons Restaurant.
