Alberta Foundation for the Arts (AFA) Music Project Grant
The Project Grants – Music can be used for:
- Art Production: demo and commercial recording
- Training/Career Development: full-time study, course, workshop or mentorship opportunity
- Travel/Marketing: promote your CD, create a website or promo package, showcase your band.
- Research
- Commissioning:
The composer applies once details have been worked out with the commissioning body.

ACIA Loan Opportunity (Alberta Cultural Industries)

The Alberta Cultural Industries Fund (ACIA) may be a solution to boosting your bottom line.
The Fund offers direct small loans up to $25,000, or guarantees your company to a financial institution for loans and lines of credit up to $250,000.
The Fund is operated in part by the Alberta Recording Industry Association, and so is designed as a “music industry friendly” process.

The SOCAN Foundation
Assists with travel/accommodation costs to showcase at foreign festivals. The Foundation contacts artists who are invited by the conferences.

X92.9 Exposure Travel Grant
Assists with travel/accommodation costs for Tours and Showcases, Domestic and International.
Deadlines: March 1, May 1, September 1, and December 1, 2010
Main areas of revision to note:
You must be a resident of Alberta as well as a member of Alberta Music.
Approved applicants will receive 25% of funding upon execution of the contract. 75% will be released upon receipt of final report after travel is completed.
Tour Support Maximum: $3,000 for Domestic Tours and $5,000 for International Tours
Showcase & Conference Funding Maximum: $1,000
The Conference grant is available for industry members as well as artists. (i.e. managers, record labels, concert promoters, etc.)

Canada Council for the Arts
The Canada Council for the Arts provides support for the development of individuals, groups, small ensembles, orchestras and other professionals working in the Canadian music community. In addition to tours, concert production, sound recordings and festival programming, the Music Section funds a variety of related activities such as residencies and the commissioning of Canadian compositions.

Alberta Creative Development Initiative
The Canada Council for the Arts and the Alberta Foundation for the Arts (AFA) are jointly responsible for the new granting program in cooperation with the Calgary Arts Development Authority and the Edmonton Arts Council. ACDI grants for individual artists will support research, creation, production and/or dissemination, as well as professional development, including residencies.

FACTOR (The Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent on Recordings)
The foundation administers the voluntary contributions from sponsoring radio broadcasters, as well as two components of the Department of Canadian Heritage’s newly formed Canada Music Fund Council’s programs, to support the Canadian music industry.
The funds assist Canadian recording artists and songwriters in having their material produced, their videos created, and support for domestic and international touring and showcasing opportunities. It also provides support for Canadian record labels, distributors, recording studios, video production companies, producers, engineers and directors.

Radio Starmaker Fund – (Canadian Radio Broadcaster Fund)
This Fund supports emerging artists with star potential from every region of Canada. The aim is to allocate funding in such a way that it has a direct impact on artists, and supports their marketing and touring initiatives both in Canada and abroad in a way that will make a difference.
The Fund supports a variety of marketing and promotional initiatives related to eligible Canadian music recordings, including radio advertising, that are key to developing the star status of Canadian artists.
